Did you know that your health story doesn't come in black & white?
Medicine likes to break the human body into separate components to be treated. Hormones, the immune system, digestive function, and the brain are a tightly woven, interdependent matrix.
There is no other screening test that is more efficient, effective and affordable than a comprehensive blood chemistry panel. There are two main types of ranges in the field of blood chemistry: a pathological range and a functional range. The pathological range is used to diagnose disease. The functional range is used to assess risk for disease before disease develops.
When we consider functional ranges, we can paint a more accurate picture of your health in degrees of grey.
This allows for the opportunity to work upstream to resolve premature issues as opposed to reacting downstream when disease sets in.
Why Hasn't My Previous Blood Work Revealed My Health Problem?
Understanding Patterns
Functional blood chemistry analysis goes beyond simply diagnosing diseases or chasing symptoms. Instead, it looks at patterns and upstream mechanisms using functional ranges to provide a deeper understanding of the root causes of dysfunction. Traditional lab results often focus on whether you fall within the “normal” range, but many patients find themselves in the frustrating category of being “within range” but still feeling far from well.
By focusing on functional ranges, we can uncover early signs of blood sugar imbalances, insulin resistance, inflammation, liver and kidney stress, electrolyte imbalances, nutrient absorption issues, and more—all before they develop into more serious conditions. This approach allows for the identification of key stressors that can later manifest as chronic health concerns. Blood chemistry analysis is not about simply diagnosing a condition; it’s about understanding where the system is breaking down and where we can intervene to bring about a shift.

Helpful to Know
The functional model of health approaches patient care differently than the current standard model. Rather than waiting for test markers to fall outside wide ranges in order to come up with a diagnosis, the goal of the functional model is to evaluate your results agains more narrow, optimal ranges.
This allows us to address patterns of imbalance “upstream” before a diagnosis. In other words, we can work to address the problem before it sets in deeper over time.
